Hi, I’m Emmy! I’m a writer and storyteller with over a decade of professional experience and a lifetime spent writing — my oldest and truest love. Since I could talk, I’ve been writing — starting with the stories I’d dictate out loud to my mom, who’d dutifully type my words out on our clunky 90’s family computer. These days, I’m a digital marketer for various food and bev brands and a freelance writer and blogger, with a focus on food, wellness, sustainability, and veganism. In my free time, I can be found trying out a plant-based recipe or gardening in my backyard in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where I live with my partner and our three cats, Otis, Maple, and Ida.
I pride myself on my ability to adapt my tone as needed and create on-brand content for just about any business or publication. While I’ve written on about every beat imaginable from fitness and health to beauty, travel, pets, dining, tech, healthcare, and more, I no longer try to do it all, and I’m proud of the fact that I’ll pass on assignments that don’t mesh with my values. I proudly infuse all health and wellness content with a firmly anti-diet slant and will turn down work that would require me to, for example, promote a keto diet, hawk diet pills, push calorie counting, a carnivorous diet, or any product or service I don’t believe in myself.
I earned my master’s degree from Florida State University in Media & Communication Studies with a focus on environmental communication and food politics. My B.A., also from Florida State University, is in Editing, Writing, and Media, and I hold a certification in Plant-Based Nutrition from E-Cornell.
I worked full-time as an editor for the Florida Senate for two legislative sessions, which sharpened my skills in legal writing and editing and honed my ability to work on incredibly tight deadlines under high-pressure situations (where a missing comma could quite literally change the meaning of a future bill). I’ve provided freelance editing for clients ranging from published authors to students to business owners, offering every stage of editing from developmental feedback and rewrites to grammatical proofreading. I’ve written, created social media content, and overseen digital marketing for CPG brands, products, climate and animal rescue nonprofits, coaches and entrepreneurs, and therapists, employing SEO best practices and a meticulous eye for detail in all I do.
